Preparing for your trip

What to Bring

A common question asked by most of our guests is “What should I bring?”. Here is a short list of things to bring and/or consider.

Cancellation policy – Our cancellation window closes 48 hours before trip departure. If you must cancel within 48 hours of departure, or do not show for your trip - you will be charged for the trip.

What To Bring

BE PREPARED TO BE OUTSIDE NEAR/IN WATER FOR 4-8 HOURS

Fishing License – You will need a fishing license. Buy Online. We can sell you a license the day of the trip, but it is more convenient to have your license when you arrive. Group trips are strongly encouraged to purchase licenses beforehand. In Colorado you will need to show a valid State issued Drivers License or State issued ID. If you have never had a fishing or hunting license in Colorado you will need to provide a full Social Security number. Cash only for a license please.

Personal Fishing Equipment - some guest like to bring their own equipment on guided fly fishing trips, but we do supply rods, waders and boots for your day with us. Suitable rods include 8.5’ to 10’ rods in weights 4-6. For float trips, 5-6 wt rods are best. Waist high or chest high waders are the rule for fall, winter, and spring wade fishing. Neoprene socks and wading boots or closed toe wading sandals can be used for wet wading in the summer.

Flies – Flies used are not included in the trip cost. They will be added to the total at the end of your trip. You are welcome to keep the flies you use. We only use new, premium flies on our trips with the best hooks.

Dogs – Please let us know beforehand if you are bringing your dog. Some guides are ok with this, and others are not. It is important that we know before the trip.

Footwear - On float fly fishing guide trips, you will get wet feet. Wading boots (no studs please!), Chaco or Teva style sandals with SECURE foot attachment are all appropriate.

NO FLIP FLOPS ON FLOAT TRIPS PLEASE!

On wade trips we do have waders for you to wear, as well as wading boots. Closed toe wading sandals are appropriate for summer wet wading if you wish. Please arrive with socks for wade trips. Long pants are more comfortable than shorts when under waders. However, jeans are very uncomfortable under waders. Try to avoid denim and bring a lighter weight pant.

Clothing – The sun is intense here in Colorado so long sleeves and long pants are always appropriate, for wade and float trips. Avoid cotton in all seasons. On float trips you will be getting wet legs when entering and exiting the boat, so quick dry pants are excellent in summer. Again, you will be outside for 4-8 hours. If you need clothing suggestions, please call us.
