ROARING FORK HATCH CHART

This hatch chart is a generalization of the hatches on our local Colorado Rivers in the Roaring Fork Valley, actual hatches vary. We do see some major bug hatches on our local rivers. They may be done on one section of river but very active upstream from where they were last week. Most hatches can be followed upstream for weeks and months. Contact either Roaring Fork Anglers or Alpine Angling for current hatch activity on your favorite river spots.

Our fly fishing report is for the 4 Main Rivers in the Roaring Fork Valley: the Roaring Fork River, Frying Pan River, Colorado River and the Crystal River. The fishing report is updated regularly so check back often for current information. If you have any questions, contact us for the most current conditions and fly fishing reports. We also have a hatch chart available for general bug hatch information.

  • FRYING PAN RIVER

The Fryingpan is at 109 cfs. It is still low and fairly technical. Smaller Caddis and BWO patterns will catch fish. We have also been seeing some PMDs and even a few drakes. Still fishing 6x fluoro is a must.

  • ROARING FORK RIVER

The Roaring Fork is flowing 1300 cfs through Glenwood.

We are in the final push of runoff, with hardly any measurable snowpack left. There are active caddis, PMDs, stoneflies and drakes shouldnt be long, as we have already seen some. Right now is prime time, with the river coming back into shape. Dont wait until late june or july to come, the time is now! and we wont have much water come mid summer.

  • CRYSTAL RIVER

The crystal river is flowing 600 through carbondale.

It is still pushing mostly mud, so it is best to wait for it to clear more. This is the last little bit of runoff, and it should clear soon. Right now it is best to focus your efforts on the fork or colorado.

Dries: Para Adams #18, Mole Fly #18, Elk hair caddis #18, Stubby Chubby #16, ants and beetles #16, Hoppers #14

  • COLORADO RIVER

The Colorado is flowing 2,800 cfs below Glenwood Springs.

This is the final push of runoff, and the river is becoming more and more fishable. This is the time for chubby dropper rigs, larger streamers and larger nymphs. This is the happiest these fish will be all year, so definitely get down on the lower C.
